Dear May Films is an independent film production company based in New York City. Created by Gibrey Allen in 2009, the company approaches filmmaking organically at its core, valuing simple ideas with powerful impacts. Allen did just that for his first short film, “Excuses for Jeff,” where he and his Director of Photography picked up a camera and took off to Jamaica where they made an insightful film that tells the story of Jeff, a young man going back home to Jamaica for his gay best friend’s funeral. Reception for “Excuses for Jeff” was well-received, having been accepted at film festivals across the country.
This reaffirmed and strengthened Dear May Films’ desire to continue telling compellingly honest stories through film. The company’s second short film, “Volition,” is currently making the rounds at film festivals while Dear May Films’ third short film, “Max and Marco,” is currently still in production.
